WordPress Video Tutorial: How To Install JW Player Video Plugin for WordPress. The JW player plugin will either show a flash video (if they visit using a desktop or laptop) or a html5 video (if they visit your site with a smart phone / device such as an iphone, ipad, blackberry etc) based on the visitors browsing device.

It also allows you to set a video still, so, make sure you utilize it to make people play your video.

  3. Thank you SO much for posting this video. I wish I had seen it this morning and not later after spending hours trying to figure out why I could not get my video to show. Little did I know that you click on the “Add Media” button, then click on “External Media”. That wasn’t located anywhere in the install and configure instructions for the plugin. You’re a livesaver, Carl! Love the plugin too!

  8. I used a url with an mp4 to play instead of YouTube video and it gave me a video could not be loaded error when viewed on my iphone. Works okay on my laptop though. Wonder why?

    I have a question I was hoping you may be able to answer, I have added a hotlink .mp4 that plays fine through the jw player but the only thing is, it has to buffer the whole video first, do you know if this is some kind of option I need to change?

  13. this video was super helpful. thank you so much. I am having trouble getting the captions to show up on my videos? I have activated the caption plug in in the player and have the video captioned on youtube, but cant get the captions to show up through jw player. any ideas?

  16. When you export your video you have to have the “streaming” option turned on (eg. in Sony Vegas you can set this in the export settings for MP4). Otherwise you will need to download a program called Fast Play, which turns this feature on.

  17. See instructions in below comment, you need to have fast play turned on (or streaming), as your video will download fully before it plays.

  19. Depends on what version of the plugin you have, I noticed that the newer version does not have a lot of these features (before v2). So you might want to settle for a version before v2.

  26. Who the hell would want to use JW Player unless he/she is not forced to?! This is one of the worst flash players out there. Its buffering issues are legendary and I have no idea why so many web sites for STREAMING content use it. But then again – people still use Flash so it does not surprise me after all. This tutorial by itself is well done though. My advice to the author however is to do some research on issues relating something that he is showing in a video. It would help people watching it immensely.
